# Auto-start recording (beta)

> Let Jamie start recording your meetings automatically

With auto-start, Jamie begins recording on its own when joining a scheduled meeting - no clicks required.

  Auto-start is currently available in the **Jamie desktop app on Windows** (version **5.7.6** and above). If you don't see the setting, update to the latest version.

## How it works

Jamie watches for two signals at the same time:

* **Your microphone becomes active** - for example when you join a call in Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or any other app that uses your mic.
* **A meeting is scheduled in your calendar** - either starting within the next **5 minutes** or already in progress.

When both are true, Jamie automatically starts recording and opens the recorder. If there's no matching event in your calendar, Jamie stays out of the way and does nothing.

  Auto-start requires a **connected calendar** (Google Calendar or Outlook). Without a connected calendar, Jamie has no scheduled meetings to match your microphone activity against. Connect your calendar in **Settings → Integrations**.

## Managing auto-start

Once auto-start is available for your account, it's **enabled by default** - you don't need to do anything to turn it on. Jamie will start recording the next time you join a scheduled meeting.

To review or change the setting:

1. Open the **Jamie desktop app**
2. Go to **Settings → Preferences**
3. In section **Meeting Automation** toggle **Automatically start Jamie** on or off

  This setting can only be changed in the **Jamie desktop app**. If you're viewing your settings in the browser, open the desktop app to adjust it.

<Tip>
  Prefer to decide meeting by meeting? Turn auto-start off and use the [automatic meeting detection](/getting-started/recorder) reminder instead, which prompts you with a **Start Jamie** button without recording automatically.

## When auto-start won't trigger

To avoid unexpected recordings, Jamie will **not** auto-start when:

* The **Automatically start Jamie** setting is turned off
* You have **no connected calendar**, or there's no meeting active or starting within the next 5 minutes
* No app is using your microphone
* A recording is currently **already in progress**
