Set up for yourself

Needs the Pro, Team, or Enterprise plan. Your own connection works in Ask Jamie, Sidekick, briefings, and your own workflows.

In Asana

  1. Open My settings → Apps → Developer apps
  2. Create a personal access token. See Asana’s guide to personal access tokens
  3. Copy the token

In Jamie

  1. Open Settings → Agent → Connectors
  2. Find Asana and click Connect
  3. Paste the token into API key and click Connect
Jamie sees only what your Asana account can see. Every task and comment that Jamie creates shows as yours.

Set up for the workspace (admins only)

Needs the Team or Enterprise plan. Only workspace workflows use this connection. Jamie signs in with the personal access token of an Asana user that your team creates only for Jamie.

In Asana

  1. Create a user for Jamie
  2. Add the service account to the projects that workflows should file into
  3. Sign in to Asana as the service account
  4. Open My settings → Apps → Developer apps and create a personal access token. Don’t use your own token. See Asana’s guide to personal access tokens
  5. Copy the token

In Jamie

  1. Open Settings → Agent → Connectors and select Asana
  2. Under Workspace connection, click Add service account key
  3. Paste the token into Asana personal access token and click Save Asana key
Workspace workflows act as the service account, not as the person whose meeting it is. When Jamie files a task, it names that person in the task notes or assigns the task to them.

What Jamie can do

Jamie can:
  • Find tasks, and read their notes, assignee, due date, and status
  • Create tasks for action items, with an assignee and a due date
  • Update tasks, or mark them complete
Jamie can do more than this list. It can’t delete anything in Asana. Try asking: “Create tasks in the Website relaunch project for the action items from this meeting”

Disconnect

  • Your own connection. Open Asana in Settings → Agent → Connectors. Click Manage key, and then click Disconnect.
  • The workspace connection. Under Workspace connection, click Disconnect. Workspace workflows that use Asana pause. They start again when a workspace admin connects Asana again.
